Dr. Karissa Niehoff and Dr. Timothy McGuine to Headline Virtual Interscholastic Athletics/Activities Summit

On Wednesday, June 16, 2021, the Innovation Institute for Fan Experience (IIFX) and Campus Safety will host a National, complimentary, one-day, virtual summit that anyone involved in Interscholastic Athletics or after school activities will want to attend. The title of the summit is: “Preparing for the Return of Interscholastic Athletics & After School Activities.

“We are honored that, among 20 distinguished speakers, Dr. Karissa Neihoff, Executive Director of the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) and Dr. Timothy McGuine, a Distinguished Scientist in the Department of Orthopedics – Sports Medicine Program at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, have agreed to join our prestigious lineup,” said Dr. Lou Marciani, director and co-founder of IIFX and former director of the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4).

IIFX is offering the summit as a complimentary service to anyone the industry who can benefit as part of IIFX’s mission to “build and support a global alliance of thought leaders and stakeholders centered around safety, security and the services that contribute to the ideal fan experience.”

Session 4 of the one-day virtual summit will be led by Dr. Karissa Niehoff, Executive Director of the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), whose talk will center around “The New Landscape”. Dr. Karissa Niehoff is the first female chief executive officer of the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) and only the sixth person in the 101 years of the organization to hold the position on a full-time basis. Currently, she is the only female chief executive officer among the leaders of the national organizations for high school, college and professional sports. At the national level, Niehoff served on the NFHS Board of Directors for three years prior to joining the staff, including a term as president-elect. Dr. Timothy McGuine

The general networking session 7 will address the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the health and quality of life in high school athletics, and will be led by Dr. Timothy McGuine. Dr. McGuine, PhD, ATC, is a Distinguished Scientist in the Department of Orthopedics – Sports Medicine Program at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. His research focus is to better understand the incidence, risk factors, prevention techniques and health related outcomes for injuries and other conditions that can impact the health of adolescent athletes. Dr. McGuine’s work has resulted in numerous invitations to present at national and international sports medicine symposia, as well as the publication of more than 40 peer-reviewed manuscripts in the past decade. In addition to his academic work, he serves on the Sports Medicine Advisory Committees for both the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association and the National Federation of High Schools.

The one-day summit will feature a knowledgeable and experienced lineup of professionals ranging from high school athletic directors, safety and security professionals in interscholastic athletics, counselors, physicians, superintendents and other leaders preparing to return to interscholastic athletics and after school activities this fall.
