Liam Boylan, Gregory Gillin, Michael Roberts, ,Paul Turner, and John Sheehan Discuss the Global Approaches to Venue and Event COVID-19 Reopenings

 

 

            Liam Boylan, Gregory Gillin, Michael Roberts, and Paul Turner are a featured panel on day two of the Innovation Institute for Fan Experience’s conference – Innovative Pathway to the Future of Sports & Entertainment, This world-class panel of thought leaders and sports and entertainment industry experts will explore approaches to venue and event reopening’s all over the world as the industry looks beyond  COVID-19 and prepares for the return of fans. All five of these incredible professionals will have much to say during their discussion.

 

Liam Boylan is currently the Stadium Director for one of the most iconic stadiums in the world, Wembley Stadium, overseeing all elements of stadium operations and event delivery requirements.  He.began his career in the Royal Air Force Police where he served for 9 years. His current profession in the entertainment industry followed, starting as a part-time steward for Showsec International at Manchester Arena before joining the full-time staff and working his way up from a security control room operator, through customer services and finally finding his niche as an Event Manager. Liam remained at the arena for 5 years and then decided to jump the fence and join the music promoters’ stables working for Denis Arnold at 3A for a year in London, before returning to Manchester to work for SJM Concerts for a further 13 years. During this period Liam helped organize numerous UK arena and stadium tours such as Arctic Monkeys, Coldplay, Kate Bush, Foo Fighters, Oasis and Take That, to name a few. He was also one of the key organizers for the V festival for many years. He finally returned to venues in 2015, taking on his current role as the Stadium Director at Wembley Stadium.and

 

Gregory Gillin is a globally experienced Stadium Operations professional who has worked in senior roles for many internationally renowned venues and events. Greg joined the Live Nation team in January 2015 and is responsible for securing, development and mobilization of the venue portfolio within the APAC region. Prior to joining Live Nation Greg was engaged as the Senior Director of Stadia for the Singapore Sports Hub. His responsibilities included liaising with the construction team to ensure the successful delivery of the Sports and Entertainment precinct. Upon completion, he developed and trained a Singaporean team to manage the National Stadium and Singapore Indoor Stadium venue operations with responsibilities spanning FM, Pitch, Operations, Crowd and Risk Management.

 

Michael Roberts is the Director of Security, Safety and Precinct Operations at Melbourne Cricket Club in Melbourne, Australia.  He is. a security, safety and emergency management professional with nearly 20 years’ experience working in both the public and private sectors, focusing on major event safety, security, and critical infrastructure resilience. In his current role he is responsible for security, safety and precinct operations at the largest stadium in Australia and with a capacity of 100,024, it is one of the largest in the world. Michael has reviewed, planned and delivered safety and security strategies and plans for a range of major sporting, cultural and political events internationally including in the Asia/Pacific, Middle East, Europe and the Americas.

Paul Turner, CFE, CSSP, is the Senior Director of Event Operations for the Dallas Cowboys and AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas (USA) where he oversees event management event and venue security and public services for all events at AT&T Stadium. He was part of the stadium planning group during construction and was responsible for the development of the stadium operations department. In his 30 years in the venue management industry, Paul has developed and led numerous guests, event and security services operations in performing arts centers, arenas and stadiums.

John Sheehan is a journalist and editor with more than 25 years of experience. He started his career in newspapers and worked for the Press Association news agency before moving on to the business sector and trade publications in the stadia and leisure sectors.
