Peter Ashwin is the principal of Event Risk Management Solutions (ERMS), a consulting practice committed to enhancing organizational resilience of event organizing committees through innovative risk management practices, ‘mission ready’ preparedness programs and integrated security solutions for today’s complex and uncertain world. A former Australian Army special forces officer, Peter has led multinational teams in the major events environment in seven countries including six Olympic Games (2000 – 2012) and the Baku 2015 European Games (Azerbaijan). Peter has also consulted to some of North America’s most iconic events including the Calgary Stampede, the Philadelphia Flower Show, Memphis in May International Festival, the Pasadena Tournament of Roses and the Canadian National Exhibition “The EX”, Toronto. Peter is an author, lecturer, speaker and expert witness on event risk management and security. He is currently completing a MSc in Security & Risk Management, University of Leicester, UK.

For 20 years, Bryan Bedford has been transforming consumer, content and technology industries around the world. Throughout his career in the IT, services, sports, media, and retail technology, Bedford has launched & scaled industry-changing technologies and services in high growth businesses’ including mobile, content and customer experience focused areas. Bedford is also very active as an industry speaker and communicator on Twitter (@Bryan_Bedford) discussing tech, media, retail, sports, the future of customer experience as often as he can.

In his current position with Cisco Systems, a blue-chip technology firm, Bedford leads a team within Cisco’s Global Partner Organization that is focused on driving our Customer Experience (CX) portfolio and Cisco's Sports & Entertainment practice through our partners and channel. In doing so this team leads partners into richer and more effective execution in the areas of CX across all of Cisco including Intent-Based Networking, Data Center and IoT just to name a few. Bedford joined Cisco in 2011 and has served as the Global Industry lead for Sports, Retail & Media for the first 7 years at Cisco including time serving as a member of the executive steering boards for Sports, Retail and Media industries inside Cisco.

Before joining the team at Cisco, Bedford served as XOS Digital's Vice President of Sales & Business Development and before that Director of Sales & Business Development. Under Bedford’s direction XOS Digital, a leading software, analysis and services company focused on the Sports & Entertainment market, Bedford spearheaded all facets of external business development for the firm including forging strategic “go-to-market” partnerships with major manufactures, technology companies and industry leaders including working with nearly every major professional and college sports program throughout North America. Bedford’s time at XOS Digital included record revenue growth, expansion of the sales/marketing force, net new product/solution launches and drive towards additional profitability.

Prior to joining XOS Digital, Bedford was groomed in the sports world and spent time working for three sports teams in various roles (Sales, Coaching, Marketing) over a 7-year period including time on staff at TCU (Texas Christian University), Southern Nazarene University, and for the Oklahoma RedHawks Baseball Club. Bedford also serves as CEO & Managing Director of The Bedford Agency, a Sports Consulting & Recruiting Education company. Bedford earned his master’s degree from the University of Central Oklahoma and his Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Nazarene University in Bethany. Bedford resides in Oklahoma City, OK and is married to his wife Desiree’ and has two daughters Tessa (16) and Sadie (11).

Liam began his career in the Royal Air Force Police where he served for 9 years.

His current profession in the entertainment industry followed that, starting as a part-time steward for Showsec International at Manchester Arena before joining the full-time staff at the arena working his way up from a security control room operator, through customer services and finally finding his niche as an Event Manger.

Liam remained at the arena for 5 years and then took the decision to jump the fence and join the music promoters’ stables working for Denis Arnold at 3A for a year in London before returning to Manchester to work for SJM Concerts for a further 13 years. In that time Liam helped organise numerous UK arena and stadium tours such as Arctic Monkeys, Coldplay, Kate Bush, Foo Fighters, Oasis and Take That, to name a few. He was also one of the key organisers for V festival for many years.

He finally returned to venues in 2015 and is currently the Stadium Director for one of the most iconic stadiums in the world, Wembley Stadium, overseeing all elements of stadium operations and event delivery requirements.


Paris Olympics

Eloïse BRASI graduated from the Panthéon-Assas University and holds a Master II in Law and Security Strategy. She holds a MBA in Competitive Intelligence from the Ecole de Guerre Economique. She got a degree as Expert in Competitive Intelligence. After a year studying at Science Po Paris, she joined the École Nationale Supérieure de Police. She co-authored a book called: Israel, the 6th GAFAM? A strategy of power through new technologies. Currently Police Captain, she worked in the suburbs of Paris and in Paris intramural  as Head of the Anti-Crime Unit. She spent 5 years on the public highway dealing with the fight against crime, the management of systems for maintenance of order during major demonstrations or major events and the management of the unit human resources. She now works for the Ministry of the Interior, within the National Coordination for the Security of the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games and of the Major International Sporting Events (CNSJ-GESI) as Head Deputy of the Safety and Security Pole for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Damian Bush


Over 25 years of leadership experience and knowledge of the events industry. He possesses an excellent track record of stakeholder management at business, government, royal and military levels, and an extensive practical background in planning and provision of events across a variety of venues previously in the UK and now in Singapore. Prior to Singapore, he worked on the London 2012 Summer Olympics as Venue General Manager, and held positions with London Venues and contracting services in the events industry.


Operating now as the Managing Director for the Singapore Sports Hub through Spectra Venue Management Services, overseeing the provision of all commercial aspects, programming, marketing, experience sports landscape and multiple venues across a 35-hectare campus.

The Singapore Sports Hub venues include a 55k multipurpose National Stadium, 12k Indoor Stadium, 3k Aquatic Centre, Sports Halls, Gyms, Water Sports Centre and much more with a team of over 140 staff. The Sports Hub runs over 200 events per year and has an event footfall in excess of 3 million.

Jeff Chapman

Babel Street

Jeff Chapman is the Chief Executive Officer of Babel Street, a firm specializing in real-time situational awareness and intelligence on global topics of interest. Prior to founding Babel Street, the President of United States appointed Mr. Chapman as the Deputy Executive Secretary for Economics and Finance at the U.S. Department of the Treasury. In that capacity, he developed financial strategies concerning the government overhaul of domestic capital markets and terrorism finance regulations. Before accepting his appointment to Treasury, he co-founded, led, and sold a software and consulting firm formed to meet post-9/11 needs of homeland and national security. Mr. Chapman is a former naval intelligence officer and decorated combat veteran. He is an alumnus of the United States Naval Academy and holds graduate degrees from the University of Virginia and Harvard University. Mr. Chapman is as an Adjunct Professor at the U.S. Air Force Special Operations School where he lectures on topics such as terrorism and geopolitics of the Middle East

Joe Coomer

AMB Sports & Entertainment

In March of 2018, Joe Coomer, was promoted to Vice-President of AMB Sports & Entertainment with responsibility of overseeing all the security aspects of the Atlanta Falcons (NFL), Atlanta United (MLS), and Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Coomer joined the AMB Sports & Entertainment group as the Director, Security at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in 2015. Joe was responsible for the security and public safety elements of guests attending events at the stadium. Responsibilities at the stadium ranged from the day-to-day security operation, the strategic planning of mega-events hosted at the stadium, oversight of law enforcement, managing medical services, and overseeing the implementation of the NFL Best Practices and the NFL Code of Fan Conduct.

Prior to joining AMB Sports & Entertainment, Coomer was the Director of Security & Services at University of Phoenix Stadium from 2008 to 2015, after having served seven years as Director of Security for the Indiana Convention Center and RCA Dome/Lucas Oil Stadium. Mr. Coomer is the recipient of the 2013 and 2015 National Center of Spectator Sport Safety and Security (NCS4) Facility of Merit Award, given to the NFL Stadium selected as the highest performing regarding fan security, and was recognized by NCS4 in 2015 with the Industry Leader Under 40 award. Most recently, Mercedes-Benz Stadium achieved the 2019 Facility of Merit Award from MLS.

From 1996 to 2001 and 2008 to 2015 Coomer worked over 300+ concerts and festivals at Live Nation and AEG operated venues with specific duties to artist close security, quality control of venues associates, and leadership training for new supervisors and managers. At the University of Phoenix Stadium and Mercedes-Benz Stadium Joe spearheaded and was successful accomplishing DHS Safety Act protection for both venues.

Joe holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Safety and Emergency Management from Grand Canyon University where he graduated summa cum laude in 2015. In 2017, he achieved Certified Sports Security Professional (CSSP) accreditation from the University of Southern Mississippi and NCS4 that demonstrates his expert knowledge of crowd management and security in the professional sports industry.

Pete is a Counter Terrorism & Protective Security proffesional, providing advice and developing Protective Security plans to minimise and manage threats towards events.

David Eads

Pasadena Tournament of Roses

David Eads joined the Tournament of Roses® as Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer in February, 2017. The Tournament of Roses is a non-profit, volunteer organization that brings people together through the Rose Parade® and Rose Bowl Game® creating America’s New Year Celebration®. Eads leads a year-round staff of 35 professionals and provides a strategic vision in community relations, finance, marketing and communications, membership services, parade and game operations, procurement and facilities, and strategic partnerships. Together with the staff, Eads supports the 935 volunteer members of the Tournament of Roses Association. He works with the Executive Committee and members to fulfill the mission of the Tournament by creating premiere events and providing meaningful experiences to enrich the lives of people and organizations. Before joining the Tournament, David held senior executive roles at the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce since 2000, overseeing public policy, membership development, programs and events, marketing and communications, global initiatives, leadership programs, facilities management, finance, IT, administration and human resources. Prior to his move to Los Angeles in 2000, Eads served as the executive vice president of the Wichita Convention and Visitors Bureau in Wichita, Kansas. During his 12 years with the Bureau, Eads managed and directed the sales and marketing programs of the Bureau, coordinated the development of the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission, and opened the city’s first visitor information center. Eads has always demonstrated a strong personal commitment to the community in which he lives and works. As a long-standing community advocate, Eads has participated in both philanthropic and business related activities. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Southern California Leadership Network and NextLA. Eads has previously served on the board of Friends of the Hollywood Central Park Foundation, Community Advisory Board for The GRAMMY Museum at L.A. LIVE and the Wichita State University National Alumni Association. Eads earned a Bachelor’s of Business Administration degree in marketing and his M.B.A. from Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas.

In June 2000, Richard Fenton joined Ilitch Holdings as the Senior Director for Corporate Security, Safety, and Investigations and was promoted to Vice President of Corporate Security in 2005 and achieved the title of Chief Security Officer in 2018.  Rick oversees/directs all corporate security and safety functions, venue security and safety, security systems, corporate loss prevention, investigations, and executive services across all the Ilitch Companies.

In addition to overseeing Ilitch Holding Corporate Security, Rick led Corporate efforts for DHS SAFETY Act Certification for the Security Program at Comerica Park / Detroit Tigers and the Security Design at the Little Caesars Arena/ Detroit Red Wings. He also directed the achievement of SAFETY Act and NCS4 SESA Designation for Joe Louis Arena / Little Caesars Arena Security Program. Rick is additionally the National Chairman for the NCS4 National Advisory Board.

Prior to his work with Ilitch Holdings, Richard retired as the Executive Commander of the Wayne County Sheriff Department in May 2000 after more than twenty-seven (27) years of service.  Rick also served as Police Chief/Commander at Detroit Metro and Willow Run Airports for seven (7) years. 

In addition to his lengthy law enforcement career, Rick has been part of the adjunct faculty at Eastern Michigan University for eighteen (18) years teaching in the Interdisciplinary Technology Department and School of Police Staff & Command.  Additionally, he’s been a guest instructor at the Northwestern University Traffic Institute/School of Police Staff and Command as well as the FBI National Academy.  

Rick is the Co-Founder of the innovative and successful Public Safety/Private Security Partnership, “LIGHTHOUSE PROGRAM.”  The “LIGHTHOUSE PROGRAM” is a multifaceted Law Enforcement/Private Security program developed for the City of Detroit’s Central Business District with the goal of enhancing the safety and security of this “vibrant area” for guests, patrons, employees and residents through cooperative and coordinated private/public partnerships of security and law enforcement entities serving the area. 

Rick graduated from Wayne State University in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science of Degree and earned his Master of Arts degree from Eastern Michigan University in 1978.  He is also a graduate of the F.B.I. National Academy (NA) and the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command (SPSC).

Greg joined the Live Nation team in January 2015 and is responsible for securing, development and mobilisation of the venue portfolio within the APAC region.


Prior to joining Live Nation Greg was engaged as the Senior Director of Stadia for the Singapore Sports Hub. His main responsibilities included liaising with the construction team to ensure the success delivery of the Sports and Entertainment precinct. Upon completion, develop and train a Singaporean team to manage the National Stadium and Singapore Indoor Stadium venue operations responsibilities (FM, Pitch, Operations, Crowd and Risk Management).


Before to relocating to Singapore Greg was employed by the FA Group as the Stadium Operations Director overseeing the Facilities, Technical Services, Pitch Management, Security, H&S and Event Day Compliance (stewarding, response and medical) teams of Wembley National Stadium and the English FA’s St Georges Park facility . During his time with Wembley Greg also managed a number of stadia design verification consultancy projects in Russia and Qatar for the 2018 and 2022 Football World Cups and undertook a Football Stadia and security review on three local stadia for Mexico City Congress.


Prior to joining Wembley, Greg was engaged in the UK as the Global Facilities Manager for Skype and Group Facilities Manager for Northgate Information Solutions managing the FM and Property management needs of multiple sites throughout the world.


Originally from Australia, Greg is a qualified Mechanical Engineer and spent 12 years employed by the largest sports and entertainment precinct in the southern hemisphere, Melbourne and Olympic Parks, which comprises two operable roof arenas and a multi-use stadium. Greg’s role while employed at MOPT include the direct management of the Maintenance, Operations, Grounds, Event Management and Crowd Safety teams. During this period, Greg was heavily involved with all aspects of the operational and venue management for in excess of 3500 major events including the Australian Open Grand Slam Tennis tournament, Commonwealth and Olympic Games, National Rugby, Basketball, Cycling and Football, World Championship Gymnastics, Cycling and Swimming and countless international music events.

Paulo Gomes is a police commissioner from the Portuguese National Police. He is seconded by his country to the Council of Europe, where he has been working for four years as senior programme manager at the Sports Conventions Division. He has been dealing in particular with the promotion and implementation of the two Council of Europe conventions on sport-related violence and security: the 1985 Spectator Violence Convention and the Convention on safety, security and service at football and other sports events (Saint-Denis Convention). He is also the manager of Project «Qatar 2022», on the safety, security and service preparations for the FIFA Soccer World Cup 2022 in Qatar. As Council of Europe official, he regularly cooperates with Interpol’s Project «Stadia», FIFA, UEFA, SGSA, European-wide fans’ associations and other relevant stakeholders.

Paulo is the former National Police Director of Portugal. During his 35-year police career, he was regularly dealing with the topic of policing of major events. He started more than 30 years ago as match police commander for the 1er Soccer League. Since 1998 and for a decade, he represented the Portuguese Homeland Department at the national multiagency coordination body responsible for preventing and countering football-related violence. He was the deputy head of

the National Committee on Safety and Security of Soccer UEFA EURO 2004 and the 2006 UEFA European Under-21 Championship, both held in Portugal. At the operational level, he was the head of the Portuguese police delegations at 2006 FIFA Soccer World Cup in Germany and UEFA Soccer EURO 2008 in Austria and Switzerland.

At the European and international levels, between 2000 and 2012 he was successively head of the Portuguese national delegation, vice-chair and chair of the Council of Europe’s Standing Committee of the Spectator Violence Convention (the T-RV Committee). He also represented Portugal at the European Union level, in the field of sports and international police cooperation. He was also co-founder and head of the Portuguese national delegation at the European Football Safety and Security Experts Group (the European Think Thank). Under the aegis of the United Nations and the European Union, he led the Portuguese party in various global research projects in the field of security and safety of international major events. Currently, he represents the Council of Europe in the United Nations Global Programme on the Security of Major Sporting Events and the Promotion of Sport and Its Values as a Tool to Prevent Violent Extremism.

Tilman Jolly

Dr. Jolly is a board-certified emergency physician with a wide range of clinical, government, special event, and private sector experience. He is currently Chief Medical Officer of Aveshka, Inc., where he directly supports clients by providing clinical leadership and direction for all public health and healthcare matters. His current consulting work includes leadership of the Telemedicine Work Group for COVID-19 response as a Senior Emergency Care Consultant to the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response at HHS, while also supporting other government and private sector clients during the public health emergency.

From 2012-1019 Dr. Jolly served as Chief Medical Officer of SOC Telemed, the nation’s largest specialty telemedicine provider. In that role he led medical staff management, clinical quality, and clinical operations development.  Prior to this telemedicine leadership position he held senior positions within the Department of Homeland Security from 2006-2011 including Deputy Chief Medical Officer and Associate Chief Medical Officer within the Office of Health Affairs (OHA) and Senior Science Advisor in the National Exercise Division of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). At FEMA he coordinated modeling and simulation activities for exercise development, and at OHA guided development of the medical readiness portfolio for DHS including biodefense coordination and nuclear defense modeling and communications.

Dr. Jolly previously worked with the National Football League as a member of the medical staff for eleven Super Bowls (XXXVI-XLVI) overseeing coordination of emergency management, public health, and medical preparedness, along with representing the NFL in exercises related to terrorist and other threats.  In this capacity he directly supported security, operations, and event management staff at major venues around the country and participated in the development of NFL Best Practices for Stadium Security. 

Dr. Jolly has practiced emergency medicine in the Washington DC area for 27 years.  He currently practices at Inova Fairfax Hospital, the largest facility within the leading health system in Northern Virginia.  He holds a faculty appointment as Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine at the George Washington University.   Dr. Jolly is a graduate of the University of North Carolina (Morehead Scholar) and the Wake Forest University School of Medicine.  He completed residency training in Emergency Medicine at the combined Georgetown/George Washington University Residency Program.

Ryan McConnell is the lead product manager for Kantar’s North American MONITOR suite of syndicated consumer insights products. His role is to lead the content, marketing, renewal, and acquisition strategies for MONITOR’s 150+ clients.

Ryan began his career in marketing and advertising in 1999 as a media planner at Ogilvy & Mather. After a stint as a consumer strategist at the media planning agency Carat, Ryan earned his master’s degree in journalism at New York University and worked as a reporter at and Advertising Age prior to joining The Futures Company – which later became Kantar – in 2008.

Ryan’s passion for helping his clients grow their business through consumer insights as well as his interest in sports led him to spearhead the launch of Sports MONITOR in March 2020.

When not contemplating the intersection of consumers, culture, and commerce, Ryan enjoys traveling, rooting for the hapless New York Knicks, Mets, and Jets franchises, and spending time with his two kids, Cassidy (12 going on 16) and Benjamin (9). He lives in Durham, North Carolina.

Jim Mercurio

Jim Mercurio is in his 27th year with the San Francisco 49ers and his second as executive vice president & general manager, Levi’s Stadium. Previously, he served six years as vice president, stadium operations & general manager. In his current role, Mercurio oversees all aspects of stadium & event operations including executive oversight of the food and beverage operations, engineering, grounds, guest services, housekeeping, operations & logistics, parking and transportation. He additionally manages all police and security services, including 24/7 stadium security operations, and game & event day medical services, working with various local, state and federal governmental agencies.

Mercurio worked with design firm HNTB and builder TDJV Turner/Devcon to get Levi’s Stadium designed, built and fully operational ahead of schedule and under budget.  Levi’s Stadium has played host to high profile events including the 2019 College Football Playoff National Championship, the NHL Stadium Series, WrestleMania 31, Copa America Centenario, and Super Bowl 50. Mercurio was instrumental in working with the bid committee to get the Super Bowl’s golden anniversary to the Bay Area in February 2016, which is billed as one of the most successful Super Bowls in NFL history and has set records across the board including transferring 10.1 TB of data Super Bowl Sunday. Under Mercurio’s leadership, Levi’s Stadium has garnered international recognition, most notably the prestigious Sports Business Journal 2015 Sports Facility of the Year award, as well as a number of green and sustainability honors.  

Prior to being named vice president in 2009, Mercurio spent four years as the director of stadium operations for the 49ers at Candlestick Park. 

During his 49ers tenure, Mercurio has become an NFL leader in security and stadium management. He developed the stadium emergency evacuation video for the 49ers that has since been mirrored by arenas and stadiums affiliated with the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, and NCAA. 

In August 2005, Mercurio was influential in aiding the California Department of Homeland Security officials in the first Large Stadium Initiative Program (LSI). Having taken part in the development of the Best Practices for NFL Security, he presented to security and operational professionals affiliated with large stadiums and arenas in the State of California. 

Born in San Francisco, CA, Mercurio graduated from Pacifica’s Oceana High School in 1989, before attending Canada College in Redwood City, where he earned an AA degree in 1991. A graduate of the University of Pacific in 1993, he obtained his B.A. degree in public relations with a minor in broadcasting. Mercurio went on to earn a master’s degree in sport administration and management from Canisius College in Buffalo, NY, in May of 2001. In 2005, Mercurio was selected to complete an NFL Executive Program for Managers at Stanford University. He served on the Santa Clara Board of Visitors and Convention Bureau from 2012-2015.  He is currently a member of the Stadium Managers Association and is an inductee into the Pacifica Sports Hall of Fame. In July 2016, Mercurio was honored with the prestigious National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4) Professional of the Year Award, which recognizes a professional in the field who has enhanced venue safety and security operations. Mercurio currently serves on the NCS4 Board of Directors and concurrently serves as the Chair of the NFL’s Stadium Security Committee.

Larry Naifeh

In his 34th year with the University of Oklahoma is Executive Associate Athletics Director Larry Naifeh. He began his service to the University in January 1986 as a member of OU's legal counsel staff.

Naifeh's association with the athletics department began in September 1991, when he was named compliance officer. Twice since May 1996, Naifeh has served the University as interim athletics director.

For the past several years, Naifeh's areas of responsibility for the athletics department include senior administration team, contracts and other legal issues, capital improvement projects and funding, fiscal and strategic planning, facilities and event operations and security, risk management, the men's and women's golf programs, and special projects.  Naifeh is also an Adjunct Professor in the College of Education Master’s Degree in Higher Education Program teaching Legal Issues in Intercollegiate Athletics Administration.

The Athletic Department's recent $500,000,000-plus in capital improvement projects for all sports have been coordinated and supervised by Naifeh and have included the expansion and renovation projects at the Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium; the Barry Switzer Center; the Lloyd Noble Center team facilities and additions; Headington Hall housing, the Everest Indoor Training Center; the McCasland Field House; the Charlie Coe Center for Golf; John Jacobs Track; Mosier Indoor; the Bud Wilkinson football team and practice facilities; the Wadley Indoor Tennis facility as well as other projects for the soccer, tennis, volleyball, wrestling, softball, baseball, rowing, and gymnastics programs.

Naifeh is a member of the National Advisory Board for the National Center for Sport Spectator Safety and Security (NCS4).  In 2013 he was named the NCS4 Professional of the Year and is a regular presenter at the NCS4 National Conference.

Naifeh was the recipient of the 2009 All-American Football Foundation Outstanding Executive Associate Athletics Director Award.

Naifeh came to OU after serving seven years as assistant city attorney for the City of Oklahoma City. He has been a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association, the Cleveland County Bar Association, the National Association of College and University Attorneys, and is a past chairman of Cleveland County Court Appointed Special Advocates.

A graduate of the University of Oklahoma, Naifeh holds a bachelor's degree in law enforcement administration and a juris doctorate. While in college, he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega social fraternity, Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society and Phi Beta Kappa, and was a Robert Dean Bass Scholar.

A member of the Oklahoma University Rugby Club, Naifeh competed at the US National level and toured several countries during his playing career.  He coached the U.S. Western Territory Rugby Team to eight (8) National Championships. In 2002, Naifeh served as the National Team Coach for the United States Collegiate All-American National Team on a winning tour of South Africa, a world power in the sport.

Naifeh's family includes his wife, Mary, daughter Tyson, daughter Jessica and son-in-law Josh Blyden, and granddaughters Isabelle Grace and Evelyn Rose Blyden.

For more than 35 years, Russ Simons has been involved in nearly every facet of the sports and entertainment facility industry including design, construction and management. At Venue Solutions Group (VSG), Russ directs the firm’s safety, security, risk and crowd management operations. He works with operators at every level from college to every major professional league.

Russ is a member of the International Association of Assembly Managers (IAVM), and has served on the Board of Directors and Life Safety Council. He is a founder and instructor of the IAVM’s Academy for Venue Safety and Security and is an Instructor and former Chairman of the Board of Regents of IAVM’s Venue Management School at Oglebay. Russ continues to work on industry Safety and Security issues having recently led webinars on Ebola and Civil Disobedience and Demonstrations. He is a 2004 recipient of the GIGI Award of Excellence and member of the Event, Sales and Marketing Hall of Fame. Russ currently serves as the chairman of the Department of Homeland Security Public Assembly Facility Sub-Sector for Commercial Facilities. He is a former volunteer firefighter, instructor at the Hartford County Fire Training Center, and an Emergency Medical Technician. 

Russ is the architect of the Walmart “Black Friday” crowd management plan, including the development and training of over 1.6 million Walmart Associates in more than 4,000 Walmart stores in the United States. Russ’ plan is now standard operating practice for all Walmart “Retailtainment” events.

Prior to creating Venue Solutions Group, Russ was a Senior Principal with the global design firm Populous. There he managed the firm’s facility operations, evaluation and analysis group which assisted public assembly venues in the renovation and development of new facilities. He also worked closely with designers and architects as they created functional and secure sports and entertainment facilities. Russ’ previous positions include: Senior Vice President and General Manager of Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, home to the NHL Nashville Predators as well as Senior Vice President of Powers Management and President of Powers Solutions, a professional sports and entertainment facility consulting company.

Paul Turner, CFE, CSSP is Senior Director of Event Operations for the Dallas Cowboys and AT&T Stadium where he oversees event management event and venue security and public services for all events at AT&T Stadium. He was part of the stadium planning group during construction and was responsible for the development of the stadium operations department. In his 30 years in the venue management industry, Paul has developed and led numerous guest, event and security services operations in performing arts centers, arenas and stadiums.


He has previously held positions with the NFL Philadelphia Eagles, the NBA Portland Trailblazers, Theatre Projects Consultants and the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts in Southern California. Paul is active in the venue management industry and is a member of the International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM) and the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4) where he serves on their National Advisory Board and is a past Chair of their Professional Certifications Commission. Paul is an instructor and former chair of the Academy for Venue Safety and Security (AVSS). He currently serves as a faculty member and Vice Chair of the Venue Management School (VMS). In 2015 Paul received the Distinguished Leadership Award from NCS4 and he is a 2017 recipient of the FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award. He was recognized as a facility manager “Power Player” by the Sports Business Journal and as an All Star by VenuesNow magazine in 2019.


Paul is well known for developing industry standards and practices for customer service, event management, security and venue operations. He has created many training and development programs and has presented at industry conferences in the United States, Northern Ireland, Germany, Australia and the Middle East.

Pascal Viot

Paleo Festival

Active in the event safety management since 1992, Pascal Viot has been involved in Safety and Security of numerous of sport (football), cultural (concerts, festivals) or business (conferences, exhibitions) events on various scales, in Switzerland and across Europe. Specialized in crowd management and emergency planning, he has been asked to develop and manage the emergency procedures and the crisis management plan of major concerts or events like the Rolling Stones in Lausanne and The Police in Geneva (2007), Dalai Lama conferences in Lausanne (2009) and Sonisphere Festival Yverdon (2012). As an expert, he has been recently mandated for consulting and training by major event organizers like Eurockéennes de Belfort (2013), Montreux Jazz Festival (2015-2016), Fête de la Musique in Geneva (2015 to 2017) and Rock-en-Seine Festival in Paris (2016 to 2018).

Being also a sociologist and a researcher in the field of risk and urban safety analysis, he was between 2000 and 2006 a lecturer in several French universities. Between 2006 and 2009, he has lead a collective research (financed by the FIFA) at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) on the Security of Major Events, including the case study of the Euro 2008 in Geneva. He achieved his PhD in 2013 with a research project dealing with urbanism and security during major events ( Between 2013 and 2016, he has been running a research with Prof. Olivier Fillieule at the University of Lausanne on public order management and policing of major gatherings. He is now Associate researcher at the Urban Sociology Laboratory at Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne.

After 15 years of collaboration as volunteer at Paleo Festival Nyon, including a position as Security manager of the main stage for 5 years, Pascal Viot is now Head of Department Safety, Security & Services, including management of security and safety, first aid, road traffic control, public transport and camping facilities. In 2016, he created iSSUE, the Swiss Institut for Urban and Event Safety ( Being a member since 2006, he is now leading the Yourope Event Safety Group alongside Henrik Bondo Nielsen from Roskilde Festival (Denmark), influencing and promoting best practices in this field across Europe.

Stu Weiss

Dr. Stuart Weiss is an internationally known expert in the fields of business continuity, disaster and pandemic planning for large gatherings and special events. He is the founder of Intelligent Crowd Solutions, a consulting company specializing in business continuity planning, exercise development, and crisis management for special event and event production clients. Dr. Weiss serves as the medical director for several world-renowned events and has written numerous business continuity plans. Dr. Weiss serves on numerous CoViD-19 taskforces looking at business re-opening/re-imagining. He is board certified in Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics and is a Certified Business Continuity Professional.

Donny White

Don White is the CEO and Co-Founder of Satisfi Labs. He is a business strategist and entrepreneur with a long history of bridging complex technology solutions with client needs. Don is a key voice in the Artificial Intelligence start-up community, regularly providing commentary around the future of AI and its impact on our lives and commerce. Under White’s leadership, Satisfi Labs has grown exponentially YOY by building strategic partnerships across key industries in sports, entertainment, and tourism and acquired investment from Google, MLB, and Red Light Management. Prior to Satisfi Labs, Don spent 15 years at Bloomberg in key roles including Head of Research & Strategy, Head of Product, and Head of Sales for the Americas. Eventually making the jump into the start-up world, he was brought on as VP of Sales for Datahug, a SaaS company that provided sales analytics and predictive forecasting, in order to set them up for acquisition by SAP. He holds an MBA from Cornell University and a BBA from Baruch College.
