On 11 March 2020, the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a pandemic. Nine months later, four vaccines debuted in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Russia. The United States has since added another vaccine to the world’s public health arsenal in the fight against COVID-19 – more are certain to follow. The challenge is to overcome vaccine hesitancy so that the world can reach a level of herd immunity sufficient to interrupt the spread of COVID-19 so that we no longer fear it.
