Football Player Arrested? More Player Rage and How to Stop it

Brazilian football player, William Ribeiro of theSão Paulo de Rio Grande was recently arrested and charged with attempted murder after brutally kicking a referee in the head during a match between Sport Club Sao Paulo and Guarani-RS in the Rio Grande de Sul state’s second tier. 

The referee was left unconscious after the second kick that Ribeiro gave the referee, Crivellaro

This scary event happened after the opposing team was awarded a free kick during the game. 

Ribeiro then became aggressive, and police armed with batons and riot shields had to rush the field. An ambulance came for Crivellaro shortly after the incident.

What Happens Now?

Legal action is being taken, as Ribeiro was arrested at the stadium. Heis currently in jail, pending a complete investigation. The video of the incident shows Ribeiro deliberately and violently kicking the fallen official in the head and neck. The incident was so brutal that he was charged with attempted murder.  

While legal measures are adjudicated in the courts, the immediate consequences for the sport and the player are real – brand damage for the sport and the team, and Riberio’s soccer league contract is no more.
