Session 6 – Health Safety Passports and Access Control
On March 25th, 2021 IIFX hosted a one-day, virtual summit – Prepping for the Return of Fans!, tailored to share information and innovative solutions between sports and entertainment industry leaders as they prepare to welcome fans and spectators to live entertainment.
The Health Safety Passports and Access Control panel was sponsored by Applied Silver who presented their signature product SilvaClean ®, which infuses fabrics with germ-killing microbial silver. Their product has applications in any environment where germs and bacteria can be easily spread such as hospitals, hotels, locker rooms, and more. SilvaClean helps destroy germs and bacteria on soft surfaces, protecting people from serious and life-threatening infections. Following the Applied Silver presentation, Jerome Pickett, Dr. Til Joly, and Brian Herbet all spoke about their perspectives and what they have seen and done throughout the pandemic.
Brian Herbert, the Vice President of Security for the Golden State Warriors described what the Warriors have been doing to prepare for fans returning. Every employee who works at the Chase Center gets COVID-tested on a consistent basis to create a health-safe work environment. As the coronavirus is an airborne pathogen, the Warriors have added new EPA-approved filters with a state-of-the-art air handling system that turns the air over 4.4 times an hour. In areas where air circulation is less, additional filters help scrub the air of virus-sized particles to achieve the same goal.
Dr. Til Jolly, the Chief Medical Officer of Aveshka, addressed the current state of the public health sector and what we now know about COVID-19, the utility of prevention measures, and the efficacy of vaccines. Dr. Jolly addressed the importance of a comprehensive health-safety strategy that includes incentivizing vaccination for staff, supporting public vaccination campaigns, enforcing the use of masks and hand washing, and communicating with fans and staff. Dr. Jolly stressed the importance of people not letting their guard down as vaccination rates increase and COVID positivity and death rates fall. Dr. Jolly spoke highly of the science behind the vaccines and their role in allowing the sports and entertainment industry to welcome fans back.
Jerome Pickett, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Sports and Entertainment at CLEAR, is an important part of the Golden State Warriors reopening strategy. CLEAR provides a means of credentialing people who are vaccinated or test COVID-negative, providing a simple means of access control for sports and entertainment venues. CLEAR has over 100 partners that are working together to help keep people safe and healthy no matter what they are doing in their lives. Pickett discussed how CLEAR gives people the ability to control their own identity while protecting their privacy. CLEAR gives fans the ability to enter stadiums with the right results in a touchless manner.
