This fall, college football game days will look more normal, but different than they have in the past. Stadium protocols are also changing at different universities across the United States.
Some universities require more action than others. The University of Georgia and the University of Oregon have polar opposite protocols this season.
Per Oregon Athletics, anybody age 12 and older must be vaccinated or have a negative Covid-19 test result to attend home games. Fans must wear masks while not actively drinking or eating as well.
According to Chip Towers at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, University of Georgia’s Sanford Stadium will open to full capacity with no mandates of any kind and crowds of as large as 92,746.
Louisiana State University (LSU) became the first – and still only – SEC school requiring proof of vaccination and/or negative PCR testing. Fans entering Tiger Stadium, dubbed “Death Valley” for its daunting home-field advantage, will need to take this extra safety step before roaring to life.
Some universities and coaches are urging their fans to get vaccinated and protect themselves against Covid-19 and the Delta Variant.
Lane Kiffin and the entire Ole Miss Rebels football program are 100 percent vaccinated and hope others will do the same.
Almost all Division I schools are hosting fans this fall, with plenty of stadiums at full capacity.
One NCAA Division I school, the University of Hawai’i at Manoa will not host fans at all this season. This decision is not limited to football, also all of the university’s fall sports.
What About NFL Stadium Protocols?
This upcoming season, all 32 NFL football teams have approval for full capacity games. Although, how the games will operate is up to local and CDC guidelines.
The Las Vegas Raiders’ plan allows vaccinated fans to not wear a mask inside the stadium. They are even offering vaccinations on site at Allegiant Stadium before home games.
The New Orleans Saints are following in LSU’s footsteps with mandatory proof of vaccination or negative PCR test. The Saints also confirmed that they will not refund tickets of fans not following the mandate.
Fans will need to be up-to-date on their favorite team’s mandates before attending games this season. Whether NFL or college, fans need to prepare, whether with a vaccine or negative test.
