Today, while attending the ISC-West Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, the Innovation Institute for Fan Experience (IIFX) launched the Xperience™ Consortium – a new, worldwide sports and entertainment industry tech ecosystem and innovation think tank. The group’s goal is to reimagine the sports and entertainment industry in the digital age.
Along with Founding Trustees Axis Communications, Intel, Johnson Controls, Microsoft, and NTT, IIFX Director and Co-founder Lou Marciani said the announcement is only the beginning of a journey to integrate digital technology into the industry in ways never done before that enhance revenue for venues and sports and entertainment organizations.
“As we build this group, the Xperience Consortium will lead and drive development and adoption of digital technology in all aspects of the sports and entertainment industry to keep it on the cutting edge and drive ROI for venues and organizations,” said Marciani. “In fact, we already have our first project in the works beginning this fall to demonstrate how technology can be a force multiplier and to help determine the realm of the possible for how data can be harnessed to enhance business operations, revenue generation, and the fan experience.”
The Xperience Consortium’s five key innovation areas of focus include Infrastructure: Operations, Communications, Fan Experience, and Mobility. Under those areas are numerous operational areas such as health and safety, security, seating, concessions, wayfinding and more. The Xperience Consortium’s model includes involving industry leaders from venues and organizations every step of the way to identify the most pressing challenges in need of technology solutions.
“The Xperience Consortium was established to provide a leadership role in connecting sports and entertainment organizations with a larger ecosystem of consortium members,” said Intel’s Kasia Hanson, Global Director, Video & Public Safety Internet Things Group. “Our goal is to provide value-added opportunities to people and companies in the industry to help them grow their businesses.”
The Consortium was organized by the Innovation Institute for Fan Experience (IIFX) and the five Founding Trustees at the helm: Axis Communications, Intel, Johnson Controls, Microsoft; and NTT. The Founders will recruit, by invitation only, additional larger technology companies to round out a full Board of Trustees representing all key technology areas.
The broader membership will be made up of Silver partners and Gold Partners who will collaborate with Trustees to form the Tech Ecosystem.
Silver Partners will be generally entrepreneurs, startups; and other small, yet nimble organizations with innovative technology and concepts who will benefit from the larger group’s development support to help bridge the gap between entrepreneurs, startups; and corporations. This will accelerate innovation within the global sports and entertainment industry.
Gold Partners will be more mature, tactical and solutions-based companies in-between the startups and the large corporations. They will fit into even more technology and support areas in the Tech Ecosystem. These companies will be in a prime position to network and collaborate with the full Tech Ecosystem (Trustees, Silver Medal Partners and fellow Gold Medal partners) to develop and scale their own ideas and participate in new development projects.
Members will have opportunities to network, collaborate, brainstorm, and problem-solve. The Consortium will host events such as idea showcases, vendor briefings, and product pitch opportunities. Members of the Proteum Capital team will help accelerate innovation by providing expert guidance to validate solutions and tailor a roadmap for winning solutions. These winning solutions may use the Axis Communications Experience Center locations across the U.S. and in Mexico City and Toronto.
